You can add WhatsApp or text messaging to an eligible, claimed and verified Google Business Profile through its contact settings. The customer then starts a message using the selected channel. With the destination connected to Zonitel, your team can handle the inquiry in Conversations instead of relying on one employee's personal phone.
Imagine a customer finding your repair business on Google Maps. They want to ask whether you service their neighborhood before calling. A messaging option offers another way to ask—but a button alone does not make a lead useful. The message needs to reach the right business account, and someone needs to answer it.
Choose a working business messaging destination
For SMS, use a business number that can actually receive text messages. Voice service alone does not establish SMS readiness. For WhatsApp, use the click-to-chat link for the intended WhatsApp business number, and confirm that its messaging connection works. These are separate channels; putting a number on Google does not connect it to Zonitel automatically.
Start by sending a message directly to that destination from a separate customer device. In Office, confirm it arrives in Conversations and that an authorized team member can reply. Resolve account access, number selection or connection problems before advertising the channel.
Add the option to your Google profile
- Manage the verified Business Profile and open Edit profile → Contact.
- Edit Chat and select WhatsApp or Text message.
- Enter the appropriate WhatsApp click-to-chat URL or SMS-capable phone number, then save.
- Check the customer-facing profile when the option appears. Start a message and verify receipt and a reply in the intended business channel.
Google limits this feature to selected regions and profiles. If Chat is not available, do not assume your phone setup is broken. Google also states that when both options are added, only text messaging is shown to customers. Choose the option your team is prepared to manage rather than promising both will appear.
Turn a new inquiry into a useful conversation
Assign a person to monitor the inbox during business hours. Start with the customer's question, then ask only for the details needed to help. For the repair example, that could be the service area and type of repair. Avoid forcing every inquiry through a long registration form before giving a useful answer.
If you use Conversational AI, separately configure its approved knowledge, reply channels and handoff process. AI uses credits based on actual consumption; messaging has applicable charges and terms. A customer inquiry is not permission for unrelated marketing. Follow the requirements of the channel when sending subsequent messages.
Will this improve Google rankings?
Adding a messaging option is a contact improvement, not a ranking guarantee. Review inquiries and outcomes to see whether it helps your business. This setup sends customers into SMS or WhatsApp; it is not a direct Google chat integration or automatic Google lead-attribution feature inside Zonitel.
