Can WhatsApp calls ring your business phones? Yes: with an eligible WhatsApp Business setup, Zonitel’s incoming-calling beta lets customers call your WhatsApp number and reach your configured business phone flow. Your team answers the call; this is not an AI voice receptionist.
A customer messages about an order, then calls because explaining it by voice is easier. If that call depends on one person’s mobile phone, someone else on your team may never hear it. Bringing the incoming call into your business phone system gives it a defined destination instead of relying on that person being available.
How does Zonitel route incoming WhatsApp calls?
The call follows the routing and hours configured in the number’s Destination. That can include an extension, IVR menu or Ring Group, depending on your setup. WhatsApp messages still belong in the shared Conversations inbox; receiving messages does not automatically switch on voice calling.
For example, a customer calls a store’s WhatsApp number to ask about pickup. With the appropriate configuration, the call can follow an IVR option to the sales Ring Group. During closed hours, the configured after-hours destination applies. Decide who should answer before advertising the number for calls.
Four checks before you invite customers to call
- Check eligibility: in Office, open Settings → WhatsApp → Numbers and the handset icon beside the intended number. Review the calling-readiness checklist, not just the messaging connection.
- Enable incoming voice: use Allow voice calls. Show the call button controls visibility in WhatsApp; hiding the button is not the same as disabling calls.
- Confirm the route: save the intended settings, check the reported status and verify that the number is ready to ring your phones. Review Destination routing, business hours and after-hours handling.
- Test the customer experience: call from a separate WhatsApp account during allowed hours. Verify the correct phones ring, two-way audio works and the call appears in history.
Does this include outbound calls or AI answering?
No. This feature is for customer-initiated incoming WhatsApp calls; do not assume it enables outbound calls. Zonitel’s Conversational AI replies in supported text channels, while Call Intelligence analyzes eligible recorded calls. Neither is currently an AI answering live telephone calls.
Beta access depends on account and number eligibility. Confirm availability and applicable service charges with Zonitel before activation. A Meta fee exemption for incoming calls does not make your entire business phone service free.
