To train a business AI chatbot, give it current, approved information about your company, connect that knowledge to the right assistant, and test the questions customers actually ask. In Zonitel, you can also correct a test answer and submit the correction with Train Bot. Training guides future replies; it does not make every answer error-free.
The problem is not always the chatbot's tone. It might use last year's hours, confuse two locations, or describe a service you never offered. A helpful-sounding wrong answer can turn a simple inquiry into a disappointed customer. Before rewriting instructions, check the information behind the response.
Start with a small, reliable knowledge base
In Office, open AI → Knowledge Bases. Add selected website pages, focused question-and-answer entries or readable documents. Choose material the business has approved, not every file you can find. Remove outdated offers and conflicting policies, and confirm that processing is complete before testing.
For a service business, start with opening hours, locations, services, booking instructions and questions that require a person. Make each answer useful on its own. If a price depends on an inspection, explain the quotation process rather than supplying an invented amount. Keep passwords, customer records and unnecessary personal details out of general business training material.
Test, correct and test again
- Connect the intended knowledge base under What it knows in the conversational agent, then save the configuration.
- In Test your Bot, ask a realistic customer question. Check the facts, links, language and promised next step—not just whether the wording sounds friendly.
- If the reply is wrong, fix any incorrect source. Use Improve to edit the question and confirmed answer, then click Train Bot to submit the correction.
- Retest with different wording and a fresh conversation. Also ask something outside the business's knowledge so you can review how uncertainty is handled.
What does a useful correction look like?
Fictional example: a repair shop closes at 5 p.m., but the assistant tells a customer it closes at 7. The manager updates the outdated page and corrects the answer to include the shop's confirmed weekday hours. They then test both “What time do you close?” and “Can I come at six?” A changed source and a changed test answer should be checked together.
Have one person own the approved answers. Recheck them when your hours, services or policies change, and review a small sample of live conversations. An answer correction should not become a promise of a discount, appointment or staff callback that the business has not authorized.
Does this train an AI to answer phone calls?
No. Zonitel's Conversational AI works in supported text channels; live AI answering of incoming phone calls is not currently available. Testing a reply also does not prove that an appointment or connected action succeeded. Verify those workflows separately. AI uses credits based on actual consumption, with applicable messaging charges separate from AI processing.
